Betar US: Zionist Movement of Ze’ev Jabotinsky

The Oath of Betar

From a young age, Betar members take an oath—an unwavering commitment that guides them for life. This oath is not merely symbolic; it is the living foundation of Betar’s ideology, shaping every thought, decision, and action.

Zion – The Heart of Our Mission
Only Eretz Israel holds the key to solving the enduring challenges of the Jewish people. The restoration of Jewish sovereignty in our ancestral homeland is not a dream—it is a necessity. Only in Zion can the pain of the Diaspora be healed.

Had-Ness – One Flag, One Ideal
The defining principle of Betar is Had-NessMonism, the unwavering commitment to a single guiding ideal: the Jewish state.
Jabotinsky taught:

“Two ideals are absurd—like two gods, two altars, two Temples.”
All aspirations must be measured against this one question: Is it good for the Jewish people? From that, all decisions flow.

The Hebrew Language – The Soul of the Nation
Hebrew is not just a language—it is our national essence. It binds generations and continents. For Betar, Hebrew is eternal and exclusive to the Jewish people.

A Jew who does not speak Hebrew is not yet complete.

Hadar – The Spirit of Betar

Hadar is the soul of our movement. It means dignity, pride, grace, loyalty, and inner strength. It is expressed through appearance, behavior, and moral clarity.
Before every action, a Betari asks: Does this reflect Hadar?

  • Be generous, unless principle is at stake.
  • Do not haggle over trifles—give rather than take.
  • Speak words of honor—honor stronger than steel.

Our goal: that someday, the highest compliment will not be, “He is a real gentleman,” but rather, “He is a true Betari.”

Giyus – Mobilization and Readiness
A Betari stands ready—physically, emotionally, and ideologically—to serve the Jewish people. This spirit echoes the sacrifice of Yosef Trumpeldor, who died defending Jewish lives and declared:

“It is good to die for our country.”

Magen – Protection and Preparedness
Betar believes in Jewish self-defense. We do not wait to be saved. We prepare. We train. We act. Every Betari understands the role of strength and the necessity of readiness. In a dangerous world, we protect ourselves and our people—always.

Tziyut – Voluntary Discipline
Discipline in Betar is not imposed—it is embraced. True strength lies in unity and self-restraint. Through obedience, we contribute to our people’s resilience and continuity. Order and honor go hand in hand.

Modern Relevance: Values That Matter
In a time of growing apathy, Betar’s ideals shine brighter than ever. We live by a powerful combination:

Hadar
Respect—for yourself and for others. A Betari embodies integrity, strength, and moral clarity in every step.

Tagar
Tenacity. Conviction. The refusal to remain silent. Tagar stands in opposition to armchair Zionism—belief without action. We believe in taking a stand. Loudly. Clearly. Proudly.

Our Commitment

Betar is more than a youth movement. It is a way of life. Rooted in Jabotinsky’s vision, shaped by sacrifice, and sustained by honor—we prepare a new generation to lead with courage, speak with pride, and act with purpose.

We stand. We speak. We fight back.

SILENCE IS DESPICABLE.
